Florida Swimming shall select twelve (12) female and twelve (12) male athletes from the 11-12 and 13-14 age groups to represent Florida at the 2024 Southern Zone Age Group Championships.

This year’s meet will be held in Midland, TX on July 24-27.

 

General Information:

All transportation, lodging, meals, entry fees, and team gear are arranged for and provided by Florida Swimming.

All athletes selected for the team must be able to commit to meeting the team at Orlando International Airport on Tuesday, July 23rd, and must be able to be picked up from the same location on Sunday, July 28th.

 

Swimmers are selected well in advance of the meet in order to guarantee that they can be fully prepared for the 2024 Southern Zone Age Group Championship meet. When a swimmer accepts their selection and is named to the team, Florida Swimming expects that they are committing to preparing for the Zone meet as their primary rest/shave/taper meet of the

2024 long course season.

 

Eight (8) swimmers from the 11-12 and 13-14 age groups and gender will be selected based on applications submitted no later than 5:00pm Friday, May 3rd.

Athletes will be notified of their selection on or before Friday, May 17th.

 

The additional four (4) swimmers will be selected from the 2024 Florida Swimming Summer Age Group Championships (July 11-14, 2024).

 

The cost for the trip will be $800 plus a $20 admin registration fee (amount includes a 'Parade Pack' of extra items to be used for trading with other teams).

Applications, when submitted, will require a $100 deposit.

The deposit will be refunded only if an athlete is not selected to the team.

Refunds for non-selected athletes will be processed by July 19th.

The deposit will NOT be refunded if an athlete that has been selected and accepted a team spot later withdraws from the team, or does not attend the meet.

 

Eligibility:

• Athletes must be registered 2024 Florida Swimming Premium or Outreach members in good standing 60 days as of the first day of the meet, Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

• Athletes must apply for the appropriate age group based on the age they will be on the first day of the meet, Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

• Athletes must have competed in two long course competitions during the months of April through July 2024, prior to competing at the Zone Championships. This will ensure that proper training and competition leading up to the Zone Championships has occurred.

• Any athlete who has qualified for the 2024 USA Swimming Summer Junior National Championships prior to the meet entry deadline for the 2024 Zone Championships will be ineligible for this competition.

 

​DISABILITY SWIMMERS:

Swimmers with disabilities who are 11 to 18 years of age and whose disability satisfies the definition as outlined in USA Swimming Rules and Regulations are welcome to apply for the Zone team. These swimmers with disabilities are in addition to the permitted forty-eight (48) swimmers and are not required to meet the time standards for their age group/events. Swimmers with disabilities may compete in finals, earn awards and score points for their team in the same manner as the able-bodied swimmers.

 

May 3rd Application Selection Criteria:

Swimmers will apply using their best times from the 2023-2024 short course yards (SCY) season.

The Head Zone Coach along with Florida Swimming’s Age Group chair will fill out the roster using the criteria listed below.

** Wild Card – 4 swimmers chosen as Wild Card will be selected based on the team needs after filling the first 8 spots in each age group. These 4 swimmers will be selected from the 2024 Florida Swimming Summer Age Group Championships (July 11-14, 2024).

 

*** In the event that the fastest swimmer is not eligible for Zone Team selection, the next fastest swimmer that is eligible for the Zone Team selection in that event may be offered the position.

In the event that a full roster is not selected from applications submitted by Friday, May 3rd the application deadline will remain open until the full team is chosen.

 

No paper or email applications shall be accepted.

Applications must be completed by 5:00pm, Friday, May 3rd.
