from USA Swimming
SHENZHEN, China – The United States set a new bar with a record-setting performance in the women’s 4x200m free relay on Wednesday night. The U.S. women swam a 7:55.02, nearly two seconds faster than the old World University Games record and over four and a half seconds faster than any other country. Tim Phillips (Vienna, W.Va.) picked up his third gold medal of the games in the 100m fly and Annie Chandler (San Antonio, Texas) won the 50m breast.
The women’s relay squad in the finals was represented by Karlee Bispo (Modesto, Calif.), Chelsea Nauta (Tampa, Fla.), Kate Dwelley (Brentwood, Calif.) and Megan Romano (St. Petersburg, Fla.). Nauta was the only swimmer who also competed in the event’s morning prelims. The U.S. came from behind during the final leg of the race which was swum by Romano. China, which led the first 600-meters, came in third in 7:59.62 and New Zealand finished in second with a 7:59.60.
“I couldn’t be happier here representing the U.S. at the games and being part of this relay,” Nauta said. “This is the first record the United States has set here in Shenzhen so I’m very honored to be part of it.” read more...
